1. FDA Title 21 CFR Compliance Principles

Under US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, packaging materials that directly touch food are classified as indirect food additives:

• 21 CFR § 176.170: Governs paper and paperboard components in contact with aqueous and fatty foods. Requires that all pulps, resins, and barrier coatings do not extract harmful chemical compounds into food.

2. Virgin SBS vs Recycled Greyboard: Why Pulp Purity Matters

Recycled boards contain trace printing inks, mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH), adhesives, and optical brightening agents (OBAs) from previously recycled newspapers and office waste.
